A woman has been fined after an automated speed camera recorded her driving at 73mph on the M4.

Lisa Deeley, 58, of Glastonbury Road, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to exceeding a variable speed limit at Bath Law Courts on Tuesday, November 18.

The court heard that the 58-year-old was behind the wheel of a Volkswagen car driving on the M4 between junctions 19 and 20 and the M5 between junctions 15 to 17.

Deeley was caught speeding at 73mph while a speed limit restriction of 60mph was in place.

She has been fined £100 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £40.

Deeley was also handed three penalty points for speeding.

In a separate incident earlier this year, 51-year-old Ben McCarthy, from Cromhall in South Gloucestershire, was caught at 68mph in a Range Rover Sport, again breaching a variable limit on the M4.

McCarthy was fined £461, given a surcharge of £184, and ordered to cover £110 of costs — a combined £755. He also received a six-month driving ban.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Younis, 37, of Vicarage Road, London, was driving a Peugeot Boxer van along the same route when he was caught travelling at 58mph despite a 50mph restriction.

Younis was fined £166 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £66 and prosecution costs of £130, leaving court with a total bill of £362.

He was also issued three penalty points.
