A Swindon bus driver has been recognised for his quick thinking during an emergency.
Passengers nominated Pedro Wiltshire to win the latest monthly Swindon’s Bus Company Best in Town award for going above and beyond his usual duties.
A spokesperson for the public transport provider explained that he was chosen for his quick response when pulling into a bus stop on Queens Drive last month, where a passenger had been taken ill.
Pedro performed CPR until the ambulance arrived and paramedics could take over and continue trying to revive the man.
The spokesperson added: “Well done Pedro, a hero.”
Winners of the Best in Town award receive a personalised winner's certificate, £50 worth of Love2Shop vouchers, an announcement on the company’s employee page and social media, their photo displayed on the in-house Best in Town board, and an invitation to the Go South Coast annual awards ceremony.
The Adver has since learned that, sadly, despite the best efforts of everyone at the scene, the unresponsive person they tried to help passed away.

People who have travelled on local bus routes can provide details about their exceptional driver’s service or bravery, and the nomination will then be considered against all other employees who received nominations during that month.
The Swindon's Bus Company spokesperson added: “As a company, we feel it is essential to reward our colleagues for their hard work and efforts in making Swindon's Bus Company the success that it is today.
“As a Swindon Bus customer, you have the opportunity to not only nominate who you feel should be in with a chance of winning 'Best in Town', but you yourself could win a prize of free travel for doing so!”
The passenger responsible for nominating the driver who is then chosen to win the monthly award will be entered into a draw with a chance of winning a week’s free travel.
The bus company sees this as a way of thanking the thoughtful member of the public for highlighting an example of extraordinary customer service.
The spokesperson added: “It's lovely to hear such positive comments about our team, and often you see things that we don't get to see and so we really appreciate you telling us.”
