Lidl looking at 10 supermarket locations across Swindon and Wiltshire

The supermarket giant, which is the fifth-largest in the UK, already has more than 1,000 stores located across the UK.

Earlier this year, Lidl revealed plans to expand its portfolio further with the opening of 19 new stores and the refurbishment of 70 existing supermarkets, creating 640 jobs.

The new openings mark a continued period of rapid growth, as the supermarket chain looks to strengthen its position as one of the UK’s fastest-growing retailers.

But Lidl is still looking for "quality" locations across the UK so it can build more new stores and continue its "phenomenal growth".

It has highlighted hundreds of locations across the UK where it wants to build new stores.

This list includes 10 spots in Swindon and Wiltshire (including relocations):

• Amesbury (relocation)
• Bradford-on-Avon
• Corsham
• Marlborough
• Melksham (relocation)
• Swindon – East
• Swindon – South / Wroughton
• Swindon – South East
• Swindon – West
• Trowbridge – South

What Lidl is looking for in a new store

Lidl has outlined specific requirements it is looking for in new UK stores:

• Store size must be 18,000 sq ft + (1,672 m²)
• 1.5+ acre site
• Dedicated car parking required (100+ spaces at ground level)
• Population of more than 20,000 people in the catchment area, and 5,000 in the main centre
• Freehold, leasehold, or long leasehold properties
• Located in a prominent and highly visible area

Lidl opens 2 new stores in Wiltshire

Lidl has already opened two new stores in Wiltshire this year.

Lidl on Brinkworth Road in Royal Wootton Bassett officially opened last month on February 5.

The new store was opened by the town mayor, Councillor Steve Bucknell, along with pupils from St Bartholomew's Primary Academy and players from the Royal Wootton Bassett Town FC Youth Under-8 girls team.

A new Lidl supermarket also opened in Calne, off Oxford Road, on February 19.

The opening followed years of planning delays and months of construction work.

The occasion was marked by celebrations involving Calne Town Youth Football Club and other members of the community, while a ribbon was cut by the town’s mayor, Cllr Ian Thorne.
