Swindon residents have been warned to expect delays to bin collections as workers battle through another heatwave.

The extreme heat, scheduled to last until 9pm on Sunday, July 12.

An amber heat health alert has been in place for Swindon since Wednesday, July 8, and the UK Health Security Agency warned of “significant impacts are likely across health and social care services due to the high temperatures.”

Now, Swindon Borough Council says the high temperatures is also causing delays to bin collections.

Waste collectors are working as hard as they can, but residents in Swindon have been warned not to panic if their recycling and garden waste isn't collected when it should be.

Instead, residents should leave their bins at the kerbside as these will be collected as soon as possible.

The council says that bin collectors will be working over the weekend to try and catch-up.

A spokesperson for Swindon Borough Council said: "Our waste collection crews are continuing to work in challenging conditions to keep services running during the current heatwave.

"As a result, some garden waste and recycling collections may be delayed. If your collection has been missed, please leave your bins presented at the kerbside and our crews will return to collect them as soon as possible.

"Crews will be working tomorrow (11 July) to catch-up and, any remaining outstanding waste, including general waste, will be collected on Monday (13 July).

"Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work through the backlog and continue to provide services safely during the extreme temperatures."
