Bradford on Avon Library has received a donation of Ukrainian-language books to help families who have settled in Wiltshire stay connected with their language, culture and heritage.
The collection, donated by the Kyiv Region Children’s Library, was delivered to the library on Monday, July 20. The books will now be catalogued before being made available for readers to borrow.
The donation was organised by Boryspil District councillor Yuliia Semenova, whose family has lived in Bradford on Avon since 2022.
Ms Semenova said: “The value of books can never be overstated. We have also sent books about Ukraine in English because we would love our British friends to see what a picturesque country Ukraine is and to learn more about its wonderful traditions and culture.”
Bradford on Avon mayor, Cllr Sam Blackwell, welcomed the donation and said it would benefit both Ukrainian residents and the wider community.
He said: “We are very grateful to have more Ukrainian books in our local library.
“Since the outbreak of the full-scale war in 2022, Ukrainians have found a home in Bradford on Avon and become valued members of our community.
“We are glad to support them and having these books available locally helps them stay connected to their language, culture and heritage.”
