Wiltshire Police have warned that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in Warminster as officers increase patrols during the busy summer period.
The appeal comes as warmer weather encourages more people to spend time in the town’s parks, open spaces and other community areas, with police keen to ensure they remain safe and welcoming for everyone.
Warminster’s Neighbourhood Policing Team said the overwhelming majority of residents and visitors use these shared spaces responsibly. However, officers say a small minority continue to cause problems through anti-social behaviour, disorder, harassment, criminal damage and a lack of respect for other people and public property.
Police have confirmed that neighbourhood officers will carry out high-visibility patrols across the area over the coming weeks and will take robust action against anyone whose behaviour has a negative impact on others.
The move reflects wider concerns across Wiltshire, where anti-social behaviour remains a recurring issue during the summer months. Reports can range from excessive noise, intimidation and abusive behaviour to vandalism, littering, alcohol-related disorder and damage to parks, play areas and other public facilities.
Although many incidents are relatively minor, police say persistent anti-social behaviour can have a significant effect on local communities. It can leave residents feeling intimidated, discourage families from using public spaces and result in costly repairs to facilities funded by local taxpayers.
Neighbourhood policing teams work alongside local councils, housing providers and other partner organisations to tackle persistent problems. Measures can include increased patrols, youth engagement, community reassurance visits, warning notices and, where necessary, enforcement action against repeat offenders.
A spokesperson for Warminster Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “With the recent spell of good weather, many of us have been making the most of the opportunity to get out and enjoy our local parks, open spaces and community areas. These public spaces are there to be enjoyed by everyone, and we want all residents and visitors to feel safe and welcome while doing so.
“Unfortunately, there remains a small minority who are determined to spoil this for others through anti-social behaviour, disorder, harassment, criminal damage and a general disregard for both people and property. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated.
“Over the coming weeks, officers will continue to be highly visible across the area and will deal robustly with those responsible for behaviour that negatively affects others.”
The policing team said it will continue working with partner agencies to help maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for residents and visitors throughout the summer. Officers are also encouraging everyone to play their part by treating shared spaces with respect and being considerate towards others.
