Disabled parking bays are being permanently moved to make way for a new facility at a Swindon supermarket.
On Tuesday, August 4, concern was raised when Aldi's disabled parking bays on Drove Road were closed to make way for a new bottle and can recycling facility.
The supermarket has since clarified its plans.
A spokesperson for Aldi told the Swindon Advertiser that while works are ongoing, two of the existing disabled parking bays have been made available for customers to use, as well as two temporary disabled bays which have been installed.
The car park is then scheduled to be repainted on Sunday, August 9, at which point the disabled bays will then be permanently relocated and clearly marked.
Aldi has apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their patience and understanding.
The former disabled bays at the Drove Road store in Swindon are being converted into a dedicated area for reverse vending machines as part of Aldi’s Deposit Recycling Scheme.
The facility, which has already been installed at several stores across the UK, will allow customers to return single-use plastic and glass bottles, as well as aluminium cans, in exchange for a refunded deposit.
Signage at the site clearly reads “Deposit Recycling Scheme Under Construction” with Aldi branding and a construction manager (DSP Group Construction Management), indicating a formal build rather than a temporary installation.
