In May 2026 an application was submitted to Swindon Borough Council by Mohit Wadhwa, seeking permission to site a mobile kebab van in a lay-by on Highworth Road, Swindon.
The applicant also proposed using the lay-by for customer parking during trading hours.
The food van, Kebab Station, planned to sell hot and cold food, including kebabs, wraps, sandwiches and burgers to members of the public.
Pictures of the outside and inside of the van were also provided in the application.
The consultant for the planning application cited two main concerns, such as the existing HGV operational function and risk to highway safety.
They said: "The proposed development would result in the loss of public highway (lay-by) which would reduce the area available for heavy goods vehicles to park safely off-street, contrary to local highway safety and network functionality.
"The introduction of the proposed trading use within the HGV lay-by invites drivers to turn right and would be likely to increase the conflict of all modes of traffic movements on or adjacent to a highly trafficked classified road (A361), resulting in additional hazard and inconvenience to all users of the road."
They advised that the Highway Authority would be unable to support the proposals and recommended that the application be refused.
The application for the hot food van has since been withdrawn.
