With TG Jones in Swindon town centre on the brink of closure, questions have been raised about what will happen to the Post Office inside it.
TG Jones will close on Tuesday, September 15, after 50 years in Swindon's town centre.
The stationery and bookshop chain, formerly known as WH Smith, has been offering discounts of between 50 and 70 per cent off across all leftover stock as it approaches its official closure.
However, the closure raised concerns over what would happen to the Post Office inside the store.
The company has now confirmed that the Post Office will also close on Monday, September 14.
People have been advised to use alternative Post Offices branches on Commercial Road and Victoria Road, as there is currently no plans for the Post Office to reopen in town.
A Post Office spokesperson said: “We fully recognise the challenging trading conditions that TG Jones and many other High Street retailers are facing at the moment.
"TG Jones had its Restructuring Plan approved by the High Court on 1 July, which includes seeking new commercial terms with landlords for the majority of their estate.
"Consequently, TG Jones is to close their Swindon store. Regrettably, Swindon Post Office is due to close on Monday 14 September."
They added: “We know how important our products and services are to the local community. The vacancy has been advertised.
"We have had interested retailers and we are now checking their suitability and that they have suitable premises. In the interim, alternative branches will be Commercial Road and Victoria Road.”

The closure of the shop was announced in July 2026, 12 months after TG Jones, owned by Modella, took over the WHSmith franchise.
Modella have plans to completely restructure the franchise, due to what it described as “challenging retail conditions” which left it on the brink of insolvency with an £8 million cash shortfall.
After the courts approved the plans, around 150 of the retail chain’s 450 UK shops will close, 120 landlords will receive no rent for three years on the units that remain trading, and rent will be cut on hundreds of other shops by between 15 and 75 per cent.
The first 19 of the high street shops will start closing this month, September 2026, including stores in Devon, Somerset and Cornwall.
