Key Swindon route closes for SEVEN months

The route between the A420 and Coxwell Road near Great Coxwell will shut for 24 hours a day starting on September 7, 2026, to allow for widening and a new signal-controlled junction.

It is expected to stay closed until April 16, 2027.

A signposted alternative route will take traffic through the A420, London Street, Coxwell Street, and Coxwell Road.

The order from Oxfordshire County Council will remain in force for up to 18 months if necessary.

Emergency vehicles will still have access, and signage will be placed to alert drivers about the closure.

Throughout the closure a free shuttle bus will operate in Faringdon.

Stagecoach and Oxfordshire County Council will run the service on Coxwell Road while the A420/Great Coxwell junction is closed.

This is because the closure means the Stagecoach S6 (Oxford to Swindon) bus service cannot use Coxwell Road.

The development linked to the works is Badbury Green, Wain Homes’ 125 new build scheme at The Steeds / land south of Steeds Farm, Coxwell Road, Faringdon.

The South of Faringdon development at Steeds Farm, near Coxwell Road, is also expected to deliver up to 325 homes in total.

Wain is now marketing it as Badbury Green, with phases under construction and homes on sale.

Faringdon is set to see more than 1,000 homes built across several major housing developments, although some properties have already been completed or are under construction.

The largest scheme is the Oriel Gardens and Folly Park development off Park Road, where up to 500 homes are planned over two phases, alongside a primary school and other infrastructure.

Elsewhere, detailed approval has been secured for 190 homes at Bellmount View off Highworth Road.
