Stagecoach and Oxfordshire County Council will run the service on Coxwell Road while the A420/Great Coxwell junction is closed.
This closure, from September 7, 2026, until April 16, 2027, is necessary for constructing a signal-controlled junction, a right turn lane, and the diversion of utility apparatus.
This order is being introduced also because of widening of the existing carriageway and the construction of a signal-controlled junction.
The upgrades will facilitate smoother traffic flow, including buses, from new housing developments in Faringdon onto the westbound A420.
The closure means the Stagecoach S6 (Oxford to Swindon) bus service cannot use Coxwell Road.
The free shuttle will connect the area to the town centre and the S6 bus service, maintaining service coverage.
An alternative route will be signposted via the A420, London Street, Coxwell Street, and Coxwell Road.
A county council spokesperson added: "The order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the sooner."
Exemptions are included for emergency vehicles, and signage will be in place to advise drivers of the closure.
The development linked to the Coxwell Road works is Badbury Green, Wain Homes’ scheme at The Steeds / land south of Steeds Farm, Coxwell Road, Faringdon.
The company has outline consent for up to 125 homes, plus public open space.
Wain is now marketing it as Badbury Green, with phases under construction and homes on sale.
