GWR has issued an apology after an incident caused major disruption to all train services.
A gas leak between Reading and Didcot Parkway has lead to a full line closure, causing major disruption to all train services between Reading and London Paddington.
The leak was reported to have started close to the railway in Didcot East at about 9pm on Tuesday, September 22, with works continuing today, September 23.
Engineers from SGN are on site working on the issue, but normal services 'cannot operate' until the leak has been repaired, the operator has said, because the railway falls within the safety exclusion zone.
GWR's journey planner shows that almost every service from Swindon to London Paddington scheduled for today has been cancelled.
The work being carried out to fix the gas leak is expected to last all day, with no time set currently for train services to resume as normal.
The gas leak has also caused disruption for services in Bristol, Oxford and Reading.
Posting to X, GWR said: "A gas leak near the railway at Didcot is still causing disruption to train services across the network today - we're sorry if your journey has been affected.
"Teams from across the railway are working to keep customers moving as much as possible, but gas engineers are still working on fixing the leak so it is safe for trains to use the nearby tracks. Disruption is expected to continue until at least the end of today."
