THE snow may have melted this afternoon but Swindon youngsters need not be glum for long – as the weatherman is predicting a white weekend.

Temperatures are set to dramatically drop tonight from one degree to as low as -3 but unless what is predicted to be a gentle flutter develops into heavier snow showers, Swindon will be in for a few clear days.

Met Office forecaster Barry Gromett said: “I don’t think we should say we’re out of the woods yet.

“Saturday looks quite a good day, cold with northerly winds and a bit of pleasant sunshine so families can get out and actually enjoy the snow.”

But some families decided to make the most of the snow while it lasted with snowmen popping up across Swindon.

The Burroughs and Adams’s joined forces at Sandringham Road, Lawn to build a truly unique snow creation – Eduardo the snail.

It was a massive two hour labour of love with Luke, James and Adam Burroughs, Jordan Isgin, and sisters Jessica and Gemma Adams creating the 4ft monster using all the snow in their garden.

Mum Dawn Burroughs, 46, said: “They wanted to do something different and the result was really fun.

“They’ve promised that if it snows again this week they’ll make lots of little snail babies trailing around the garden too.”

Children weren’t the only ones having fun in the snow.

Staff at GWH used their lunch-break to build a towering snowman – complete with toned chest and six-pack – and a snow dog.

The staff built the giant ice sculpture on grass behind the hospital but didn’t stick around long enough to see the bemused faces of patients arriving for treatment yesterday.

Gritters were expected to be out again last night in preparation for more ice on roads, pavements and driveways and motorists are still being encouraged to take it easy getting to and from work.
