A WEST Swindon Primary has been told it is a good school with outstanding strengths by education watchdog Ofsted.

Inspectors were impressed by Brook Field Primary’s ‘nurturing learning environment’ and the good progress made by pupils.

Youngsters leaving the school, in Cartwright Drive, Shaw, are better readers than average and are well above the typical standards of 11-year-olds.

Headteacher Melanie Sancto said: “This report recognises the commitment and dedication of our whole school community. We are all so proud of what a wonderful school we have developed.

“You only have to step through the door at Brook Field to see what a vibrant, exciting place it is to learn and grow.”

Ofsted rated the curriculum as outstanding thinks to ‘exciting’ themes, topics and visits. The school’s Eco Warriors and Green Team, who improve the ground and double as bird watchers, were also recognised by inspectors.

Children also benefit from outstanding care, guidance and support, according to the report, which said they believe adults look after them extremely well.

Anti-bullying procedures have managed to cut out incidents and raise awareness, said Ofsted.

The school has been told to make sure higher performing children are challenged enough and improve how it sets targets.

Chairman of governors David Tong said: “I’m delighted that the school’s considerable efforts have been recognised through this excellent Ofsted report. The headteacher, staff and governing body work closely together to ensure that the children have an enjoyable and diverse educational experience.

“This is reflected in the school’s fantastic results, remarks from the children themselves and comments received from the Ofsted inspectors.”

Brook Field scored good in overall effectiveness, achievement and standards, effectiveness of the early years foundation stage, teaching and learning and leadership and management.

It was rated outstanding in personal development and well being, curriculum and other activities and care guidance and support.
