WROUGHTON CARNIVAL, SATURDAY JULY 4 2009

The arrangements for this year’s Wroughton Carnival on Saturday July 4 are virtually finalised. This annual event will see 1000s of people lining the streets to watch the fantastic procession and then pour into the Weir Field for a day of fun and entertainment. It’s all in good cause with money raised going to local groups and charities.

The acclaimed St Andrews Pipe Band of Cheltenham will head the 2.00pm procession down the High Street, followed by a long line of colourful floats as well as walking and dancing groups.

The afternoon entertainment in The Weir Field brings together local dance,martial arts, musical and sporting groups including Swindon Town Football in the Community and the Wessex Male Choir. A 12 metre Climbing Wall, courtesy of Wroughton Scouts, will also be available for the more adventurous.There will be a superb collection of classic cars and other historic items too.

In the evening bands will be taking the stage include Mortdelamer, Mick Rutherford Band, Voodoo Vegas,Cengiz,Psycho Baby and The Blue Beatles. The day comes to a crescendo at 11.00 pm with the spectacular firework show.

Ahead of the Carnival there will be events held at various pubs and Wroughton Club during the evening from 26 June to 3 July. The selection of the Carnival Prince and Princess took place at Wroughton Junior School on Wednesday 3 June and the proud winners were Adam Game and Katherine Baker.

The village Scarecrow Competition is now running with a brilliant 30 imaginative entrants all over the village. There are £50 voucher prizes for the Best Scarecrow and the Trail winner.
