ORGANISERS of Swindon Talent 09 are gearing up for the next set of contestants who will show off their skills during the Old Town Festival.

The second heat will see 20 entrants all vying for three places in the final in the under 18, senior and wildcard categories at the Town Gardens Bowl on Sunday.

Singers, dance groups, comedy routines, flute and trumpet solos will all feature on the day, which runs from 11.30am to 1.30pm.

Patsy Moloney, vice chairman of the festival committee, said: “We have been promised good weather and it should be a great day.

“There is a wide range of acts at Swindon Talent this year from singers to flute solos. Three acts from each of the four heats will be picked to go forward to the final.”

Swindon Talent 09 is run by the Adver, Swindon 105.5FM and Swindon Arts Centre, and gives the town’s budding entertainers a chance to show off what they can do.

It is judged by Shirley Ludford from Swindon 105.5FM; Dave King, the editor of the Swindon Advertiser, and the Arts Centre programming manager Clarry Bean.

The event will be hosted by John Milford, a Sunday afternoon presenter on 105.5FM.

“The Old Town Festival is an exciting opportunity to take to the stage in front of a huge audience in a gorgeous setting,” said Swindon 105.5 community radio manager Shirley.

“I’m excited by the competition in what will be one of the biggest public events in Swindon.”

The next heat will be the during the Caribbean Carnival from noon on Saturday, July 11.

If you are too late, then we have organised a fourth open heat at Commonweal School in Old Town on Thursday, July 16 from 4.30pm.

The final will is at the Swindon Arts Centre, in Devizes Road, on Saturday, August 8.
