PERFORMER Jonathan Wilkes popped in to Swindon’s community radio station to co-present the lunchtime show with his father-in law.

Jonathan, who lives in Wootton Bassett and has a starring role in the Bristol production of We Will Rock You, star chatted about his career and played a few tracks with presenter Phil Wheeler.

Jonathan, who is pals with Robbie Williams who has a home at Compton Bassett, said he enjoyed being interviewed on Swindon 105.5 and may be able to organise interviews for the station.

He said: “You never know, I’m sure if Robbie was around, he would pop in and say ‘Hello.’ “It was nice to do an interview with my father-in-law. It felt a little bit strange, as he knows a lot more about me than anyone else. It was good.

“I was chatting about my career – it was a bit like This Is Your Life.”

The 31-year-old and his wife Nikki opened The Wilkes Academy in Old Town last week.

The academy offers dance, drama and singing lessons to children aged between three and 16.

The pair are planning to use their contacts to get top performers to come along and teach classes.

Radio station manager Shirley Ludford said the academy’s work was in line with the community station’s ethos.

She said: “It is always exciting for people to have a celebrity coming into the station.

“Jonathan is keen on promoting local talent through the academy. The station is also about giving people opportunities.

“There are strong links between what he enjoys doing and what the station does. He is supporting the town through different initiatives. He wants to have a long-term relationship with the station.

Jonathan was on air from 12pm until 1pm.

Phil said: “He is very good and seemed to be at home while on air.”
