THE future of Northview Primary School will finally be decided at a council meeting tomorrow night.

Despite hundreds of parents of pupils at the school trying to persuade the council to look at alternative options, the council recommendation is to close the Highworth school and expand nearby Westrop School to take on all the children left without a school.

The decision to axe the school was proposed because of dwindling pupil numbers and the meeting tomorrow night marks the end of the statutory consultation period.

If members of the Cabinet Panel on School Organisation agree to the closure, the school will shut its gates for the last time on August 31.

At the meeting, members are also be asked to consider an alternative option of temporarily using accommodation at Northview for a split site expansion with Westrop School.

During a pre-consultation phase last year a total of 393 residents and parents objected to a proposal to close the school and only five people were in favour.

The meeting will take place in the council chamber in the Civic Offices at 6pm.
