Volunteers are at the ready to take Swindon Council’s library service to housebound bookworms.
The council’s home library is available to residents who have a long-term disability which prevents them from getting to a library, or who may struggle to carry books.
The service is also offered to borough residents recovering from a stay in hospital or long illness at home as well as those whose carers do not have time to visit the library on their behalf.
Home library prepares and delivers more than 5,000 bags a year to people at home and has had about 100 volunteers from Swindon Libraries and WRVS sign up to the service.
Volunteers pick up items such as normal and large print books, stories on tape or CD, music CDs and DVDs to deliver to people who cannot make it to their library.
Home Library cannot take any more volunteers but is keen to hear from new customers.
Call 01793 707127, email dosorio@swindon.gov.uk, or see www.swindon.gov.uk/ libraries/homelibrary.
