WHEN Peggy Featham was told doctors could not save her leg after her arteries collapsed, just one thing kept her mind off the operation – Peter Andre.

The 92-year-old amputee from Park South has held a torch for the Aussie heart-throb since he married glamour model Jordan in September 2005.

So when doctors told her she would die unless her leg was removed she finally agreed to the op so she could one day meet the man of her dreams.

After being contacted by staff at Great Western Hospital (GWH), Peter was so touched he agreed to send his elderly fan a bag of goodies to cheer her up.

Vascular surgeon Syed Bokhari, of GWH, said: “Understandably, being told you need to have your leg amputated is very difficult to accept.

“We explained to Peggy that if she had the operation, there was no reason why she couldn’t live to a hundred and get a telegram from the Queen.

“But she told us then and there she had no interest in having a card from the Queen but she wanted to live to meet Peter Andre.”

It was Dr Bokhari who reminded Mrs Featham of the Mysterious Girl singer, who stopped off in Swindon earlier this month as part of his national tour, promoting his album Unconditional: Love Songs.

“I thought he looked just like him,” said Mrs Featham. “It is a shame he is married but Peter isn’t.

“He is gorgeous and seems like such a lovely man.”

Mrs Featham has been on Great Western Hospital’s Ampney Ward for three weeks while staff did all they could to save her leg from an aggressive infection.

However last week she was told there was nothing further they could do and that if she had any chance of survival, it would need to be removed.

Friend May Prior, 65, said: “She is an incredibly brave lady and has always been fiercely independent, never really letting anyone do anything for her.

“She obviously has a lot of rehabilitation ahead of her and I think the presents from Peter Andre will really help her.”

A spokeswoman for Peter’s agents Can Associates said: “If Peter hadn’t been on tour he would have come to see Mrs Featham, but as this isn’t possible he has sent her a signed CD and sends his love.”
