Young couple Amanda Sloper and Tom Lines were able to have their dream transport after a Lottery win as Jill Crooks reports.

A LOTTERY win enabled Jane and Peter Sloper to splash out on two luxury cars for their daughter Amanda's wedding.

Although the wedding had been paid for the Lottery win of £104,612 meant the couple, of Rowde, near Devizes, were able to treat Amanda and her husband to be Tom Lines.

The Slopers had enquired about the price of hiring a car from Ace Wedding Cars based in Bradford-on-Avon but had not booked one.

However, that all changed with the Lotto win on August 6. The following day Mr and Mrs Sloper decided to go to the Gazette & Herald's wedding fair held at Devizes Corn Exchange where Ace Wedding Cars was one of the exhibitors and told Amanda, 21, to choose what vehicles she would like to take her and guests to the church and reception.

Mrs Sloper, 46, said: "Before we won we had asked about prices of wedding cars and when we told Amanda how much they were she said not to bother, she didn't want us to pay out as she thought it was too expensive."

Mr Sloper, 47, said: "We were planning to use Amanda's car and my niece's car to travel to the wedding and the Corn Exchange but the Lottery money enabled us to hire two cars."

Amanda's wedding was only a week after they won the Lottery and the couple were lucky in being able to still book the cars, particularly a vintage Rover.

Amanda and her father travelled in the 1937 black and cream coloured Rover six light saloon to St Matthew's Church in Rowde and after the wedding it took Amanda and Tom to the reception at the Corn Exchange in Devizes.

The other luxury car was a seven seater ivory Mercedes limousine.

Mr Sloper said: "Getting the wedding cars put the finishing touches to what was a brilliant day.

"The wedding was a nice, friendly joyful occasion and Amanda loved the cars."

Mrs Sloper said: "Hiring the two cars was a fantastic start to my daughter's dream day."

Bob Loudon, owner of Ace Wedding Cars, who drove the Mercedes limousine at the wedding, said: "Amanda and Tom really liked the cars. She said they were so cosy and travelling in them was like a fairytale.

"I was so pleased for them and I gave them a bottle of champagne. I will have to sit in the back of the car and hope that their luck passes on to me!"

Around 80 family members and friends were at Amanda and Tom's wedding and around 120 people were at the reception afterwards where they enjoyed a buffet and a disco.

Amanda wore a strapless embroidered ivory and champagne coloured dress and among her five bridesmaids and two pageboys were her nephew, Aaron, four, and niece Sasha, seven, who live in Rowde.

Amanda and Tom, who live in Potterne, went on honeymoon to Cornwall.
