Friends of Paul Campbell, the 21-year-old who died after an 18th birthday party, have created a shrine to him.

Flowers, balloons and messages have been left at a spot off Canal Walk, outside McDonald's and House of Fraser.

Dozens of messages have been left on two large pieces of card paying tribute to the popular friend who collapsed at a house in Haydon Street on Friday night and died at the Great Western Hospital in the early hours of Saturday.

Among the messages left in the town centre was one that read: "Gone, but not forgotten, love you always, love Ellie."

Another person had written "Love is here."

Many of his friends had simply signed the posters while others left short messages, including "I'm here for you" and "Rest in peace."

A post-mortem in to the cause of death proved inconclusive and police are now waiting for the results of further tests and toxicology analysis.

Det Sgt Dave Williams, of Swindon CID, said that the results would not be through for a few weeks.

Mr Campbell, of Turl Street, had been out with friends at Swindon Rugby Club in Greenbridge Road to celebrate two friends' birthdays before moving on to the party at another friend's house.

People who had seen him at the rugby club party, which was attended by about 120 people, said he seemed to be in good health.

Officers have revealed that he had been arrested for a minor offence during Friday and had been released from custody at Gable-cross police station at 8pm.

As a matter of protocol they have informed the Independent Police Complaints Commission which will carry out its on investigation into Mr Campbell's time spent in custody.
