CELEBRITY Big Brother contestant George Galloway's appearance in Swindon is to go ahead.

Following the cancellation of the first night of his tour of the country, the Wyvern Theatre has said his appearance on Sunday March 3 will not suffer the same fate.

Saturday's opening night in Penzance was cancelled and reports claim ticket sales nationwide have been slow.

But Jane Shrimpton, spokeswoman for the Wyvern Theatre, said: "Just over 100 tickets have been sold. We'd obviously like more sales but we're doing better than some places.

"His appearance on Big Brother hasn't done sales any harm but maybe it hasn't done as much good as we would have liked.

"We have no intention of cancelling at all."

The long-term political effect of his appearance in the Big Brother house is not yet clear.

The MP for Bethnal Green and Bow insisted he had done "nothing undignified" during his time on the reality show in spite of dressing up in a leotard and pretending to be cat.

Ms Shrimpton is not concerned about Mr Galloway's possible reaction to a small audience.

She said: "I think he would hold his own with only one person."

Tickets for the show cost £12. For more information call the box office on 01793 524481.
