PUPILS at Churchfield's School have put a modern twist on one of Shakespeare's classic plays.

The Renagade Theatre Company, which visited the school, gave 40 Year 8 pupils the chance to dance through a performance of Romeo and Juliet.

And their hip-hop moves impressed the dancers so much that the children were invited to the Wyvern Theatre to watch the play in full.

The German company is currently touring the country but took time out of its busy rehearsal schedule to hold the workshops with the children.

Caroline Jarvis, director of performing arts at the school, said the pupils relished the chance to take part.

"They loved it," she said. "We arranged the workshops through a partnership with Swindon Dance. We are lucky that we have contacts with people who can provide this sort of fun activity for the school. These activities enhance learning and education and it was a really fun way for the pupils to get to grips with Shakespeare."
