COACHLOADS of theatregoers visiting the Wales Millennium Centre were forced to stay overnight in Swindon because there were not enough hotel rooms in South Wales.
The visit by 300 trippers, who travelled from North Wales to see Bryn Terfel, clashed with sporting events and a pop concert in Cardiff which meant the opera buffs had to be accommodated 73 miles away in Swindon. Cardiff councillor Ralph Cook said: "It just can't be right accommodating 300 people overnight in Swindon especially if they have to pay to come back into their own country."
Welsh singer Bryn is performing at the venue until early March in the opera The Flying Dutchman.
