RUNNERS donned their trainers for the annual Lethbridge 10k in aid of Lethbridge Primary School.

The race, in its 15th year, is organised by the Friends of Lethbridge Primary School, many of whom made up the 270 finishers in the race.

It was newlywed veteran runner Tim Hughes who won the six-mile race, jointly celebrating his recent nuptual and his 5th Lethbridge 10k success.

Tim, 57, came through in a closely fought race to win by just six seconds, with Heath Bampton, Stephen Lovell and last years winner Alex Fisher close behind.

The ladies race was another close finish with Swindon Tri Club athlete Jayne Parker narrowly beating former winner Giulietta Cumper.

The race was part of Jayne’s build-up for the World Long Distance Triathlon Championships in Germany which she will be competing in on August 1.

The massive turnout by Swindon Striders meant the running club scooped the majority of the team prizes ahead of rivals Swindon Harriers. Local businesses Deacons, Run Swindon, Intel and Swindon Property Group supported the race with organisers able to use some of the unopened Wichelstowe roads after help received from Trench Farrow, Bam Nuttall and Swindon Council.
