PARKRUN Swindon is holding a social day on Saturday.

Runners of all ages and abilities slip on their trainers every Saturday morning to hit the track at Lydiard Park – pitting themselves against the stopwatch for five kilometres (three miles).

The event begins at 9am and after the run, members will get together for a chat about the event and other runs in the area. Parkrun is completely free but all participants must register on the Swindon Parkrun website before taking part.

The scheme uses age grading to categorise runners, takes the runners time and compares it to the world record time for gender and age group to produce a score as a percentage.

The score allows runners to compare personal performance against others even though they might be a different age or sex to you – the higher the score the better the performance.

Parkrun was set up in March and is now fully established with more than 600 members, 53 regular weekly runners and 333 personal bests created.

The scheme is entirely organised by volunteers.
