Christine and Neil Hamilton were special guests at the Chippenham Breast Cancer Support Group’s annual tea party on Saturday.

More than 125 people turned out to enjoy sandwiches, cakes and scones at the group’s fourth afternoon tea event, which was hailed a great success.

Secretary Nina Rack said: “It was an absolutely brilliant afternoon and everyone had a lovely time.

“Christine Hamilton is our patron, so she came along with her husband Neil, and told us about being on Celebrity Masterchef.

“Everyone made a huge effort and one lady even got up early to make 160 scones.”

The event, which saw St Mary’s Primary School transformed into an elegant tea room, raised about £1,200 for Dorothy House.

“We support a charity each year and this year we chose Dorothy House, who looked after a couple of our ladies,” said Mrs Rack, who has had breast cancer three times and as a result has had to have a double mastectomy.

“Two of our very good friends sadly died this year, and we wanted to do something to thank Dorothy House for all their help.”

The group was set up by breast cancer outreach worker Helen Fisher in 1996 after she was diagnosed with the disease.
