REVAMPED Moredon and Rodbourne Cheney Library will reopen its doors to book lovers this week.

The library, in Church Walk North off Moredon Road, has been closed for three weeks to allow Swindon Council to carry out planned maintenance and repair works.

The work has also included a refurbishment, which has seen the fitting of new self service machines, a payment kiosk and smaller counter. The lobby has also been made smaller so that extra space is created in the main library area and this has accommodated two extra public access computers.

A new fire exit has also been installed at the rear of the building, disabled access has been improved and emergency lighting and an automatic fire detection and alarm system have been fitted. The library has also been redecorated.

Mayor of Swindon Rex Barnett will cut a ribbon to officially declare the revamped library reopened on Thursday at 2pm.

Coun Fionuala Foley, Swindon Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Corporate Services and the cabinet member responsible for libraries, said: “Moredon and Rodbourne Cheney Library was badly in need of a facelift and the work that has been carried out has really brought it back to life.

“I’m sure those people who use the library will notice a big difference and it will encourage even more people to use this great community facility.”

Anyone who would like to have a look around the refurbished library is invited to pop along anytime between 10am and 8pm on Thursday.

Moredon and Rodbourne Cheney Library is open Monday to Saturday.
