AWARD winning television funny man Harry Hill will delight audiences in the town later this year as part of the 18th Swindon Festival of Literature.

The comedian, whose Saturday night programme TV Burp has won four BAFTAs, will stop off in the town with his book Livin the Dreem alongside many more popular television presenters, politicians, novelists and poets making this year’s festival the biggest yet.

The festival, which will run from May 2 to 14, will focus on the wish for good health in mind and body and plans to celebrate in style as it finally comes of age.

The festival kicks off with the popular Dawn Chorus, a sunrise celebration of mental and physical frolics and the rising sun at 5.30am in Lawn Woods.

Festival director Matt Holland said: “The festival’s profile and reputation continue to grow.

“It has become a veritable festival of ideas.

“Each year it attracts new writers, terrific speakers, and a larger following.

“At every level, it has become a fantastic celebration for Swindon of things well written and things well said.

“It offers experiences for everyone that make life memorable.

“People of all ages and backgrounds have a very good time. They get together, meet authors, join in lively talk, explore new ideas, and even have a laugh. It is all very exciting.”

Other popular names set to make an appearance at the festival include writer and television presenter Sally Magnusson, former BBC news correspondent Martin Bell and television panelist and poker player Victoria Coren.

Novelists and poets entertaining audiences will include Michael Wood on the story of England, Robin Hanbury Tenison on world exploration, Gavin Pretor-Pinney on the world of waves and Kate Rew on swimming in the wild.

A wide range of literary talks, discussions, and readings at main theatres, arts venues, libraries, schools, pubs, parks, and even in an ex-cowshed will all take place during the festival, which is made possible by funding from Arts Council England, South West.
