A PESKY puss had to be rescued by firefighters after getting stuck on a rooftop for five days.

Black-and-white Hendrix went missing from his home near Victoria Road on Wednesday night.

But when workers at Austin Electrical spotted the adventurous moggy on their rooftop in Victoria Road on Thursday, they thought nothing of it and assumed he would make his way down the same way he got there.

However, when they returned to work yesterday following the Bank Holiday weekend, the cat was still on the roof, huddled up next to the chimney.

Owner Vanessa Croft had noticed Hendrix was missing on Thursday morning when he had not come home for his food.

She put out more than 200 flyers in the area in the hope that someone may know where the 18-month-old cat was.

And her prayers were answered yesterday when workers near to the Austin Electrical building saw the flyers, put two and two together and contacted Vanessa.

“I have been worried sick – I haven’t slept for days,” she said.

“I’ve got another cat at home who is heavily pregnant and she is pining for him.

“I was starting to fear the worst after all these days, but it pays to put out flyers.

“Hendrix has such a lovely nature, he is friendly but he is a little bit nervous.

“I have no idea how he got up there, he has never done it before.

“He is quite lean anyway, but he is looking really thin. He’s already got a pin in his back leg because it kept popping out – he has been through a lot.

“When I came home from work on Thursday I noticed his food hadn’t been touched since the day before and I just knew he hadn’t been home.

“I will have to keep him indoors at night now.”

After Vanessa spent several hours trying to entice Hendrix from the roof with no luck, an RSPCA officer was called as well as a fire appliance from Swindon in a bid to bring the cat to safety.

The fire service, along with a member of the public, eventually helped rescue Hendrix after his five-day ordeal and reunited him with his happy owner.
