PUPILS from two Swindon schools shut by a gas leak have returned to lessons.

Children at Oliver Tomkins Infant and Junior Schools in Toothill were evacuated to the Link Centre on Monday when Junior school head Elizabeth Wood smelt gas.

She praised the pupils for their calmness.

Engineers from Wales and West Utilities attended with Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Infant school head Rhian Cockwell said: "Both schools are open again, and lessons are taking place."
