A DANGEROUS convict escaped from prison before going on the run for two days.

Richard Hunt, 29, from Swindon, a day release prisoner from HMP Springhill, went on the run on Wednesday morning.

He was working at a charity shop in Headington, Oxford, when he allegedly assaulted a woman who was working with him.

She suffered cuts to her hands as a result.

Hunt fled the shop and then failed to return to HMP Springhill.

He went on the run until police officers found and arrested him at 11am yesterday.

During the time he was on the loose, Detective Inspector Steve Raffield issued a stark warning to members of the public not to approach him.

Speaking at the time, Det Insp Raffield said: “Hunt was serving a five0and-a-half year sentence for robbery.

“Clearly in light of this incident on Wednesday we regard him to be dangerous and I would urge the public not to approach him.”

Hunt was eventually found in the Eynsham area on Friday where he was arrested.

He was taken into custody at St Aldates police station.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident is being asked to contact Thames Valley Police on 101.
