Swindon Concert Band will be taking to the stage in Royal Wootton Bassett this Saturday with an entertaining programme of toe-tapping music, ranging from celebratory overtures to popular tunes by the likes of George Gershwin and Benny Goodman.

Saturday will mark the band’s first concert with new conductor Alan MacRae. An experienced conductor and composer, Alan has recently been appointed by the band following the retirement of longstanding conductor Mike Lock.

Band Secretary Janice Pattison said “we spent much of the early part of 2012 auditioning prospective candidates, and were very pleased that Alan agreed to take on the role. We are looking forward to his first concert with the band and feel sure that the band will continue to go from strength to strength under his direction”

Alan will already be a familiar face to local audiences, as he is also the Musical Director of the Wootton Bassett Orchestra.

Swindon Concert Band’s Spring Concert is on Saturday 12th May, 7.30pm, at the Memorial Hall in Royal Wootton Bassett. Tickets, priced at £7 for adults (£5 for students) will be available on the door, or in advance from Tony Baker on 01793 853 617 Based on information supplied by Laura Notton.
