A YOUNG fundraiser who dreams of finding a cure for diabetes will be singing at a concert this weekend to help raise more money.

Eight-year-old Phoebe Maddison will be performing at a Pop 4 Diabetes concert in Bournemouth on Saturday alongside a host of other performers.

Phoebe, who is a pupil at St Catherine’s Primary School, was diagnosed with type one diabetes four years ago and is on a mission to raise as much money as she can for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

“I want to cure my diabetes. Singing in this concert will help to raise money,” she said.

“There are going to be about 600 people watching. I wouldn’t say I’m nervous because I have sung at shows before. I want to be a popstar when I grow up.”

Phoebe has raised about £1,100 for JDRF since she started her fundraising drive last year.

She will need four insulin injections every day for the rest of her life until a cure is found.

“I am really pleased I have raised so much money so far,” she said.

“I think we just need a couple more thousand pounds until I am nearly done. I just want to carry on going and try my best to do the things I need to do.”

Phoebe recently performed at the south England finals of the Festival 4 Stars but narrowly missed out on a place in the grand final.

She will be singing Katy Perry’s Firework and Maroon 5’s Moves Like Jagger at the concert in the Pier Theatre on Saturday.

The Pop 4 Diabetes concert includes a selection of different performers and performance groups who have come together to support the cause and help make a difference to the future of diabetes.

All proceeds from the show will be donated to JDRF.

“I don’t really like having diabetes because in school everybody goes to lunch before me. It’s a bit upsetting, I have to go last,” said Phoebe.

“Everybody gets to play and have their dinner straight away and I have to have a blood test.

“I want to raise this money to find a cure for me and other people with it. I know that more children have my condition and I would love to be able to help them also.”
