A SCHOOLBOY rubbed shoulders with stars of the screen when he took part in filming for a two-part television series.

Tomi Fry, nine, who is a pupil at Abbey Meads Primary School, is starring in The Other Wife alongside John Hannah and Rupert Everett.

The series, which was filmed from April to June, is due to appear in Germany shortly and is expected to be aired in England in the next 12 months.

Tomi, who is a member of Stagecoach Theatre Arts School, said: “It was really fun. “I was given the script and I had to learn the lines, then the next day I had to say all the lines from memory and do all the actions.

“The longer the script, the harder it is to learn. I don’t actually say much in the part, I had to do a lot but I don’t actually say much.

“I was quite nervous but everyone was really nice, John Hannah especially.”

Tomi, who has previously appeared in the final of Swindon Talent, auditioned against more than 100 children for the part of Jared, who is John Hannah’s character’s son.

“When I found out I got the part I couldn’t speak, I was really shocked,” he said.

“I want to be a comedian when I grow up – people tell me I’m funny.”

Tomi, of Abbey Meads , was filming for 20 days in several locations, including Bath, Bristol and Corsham.

Tomi’s mum, Bethan, who is headteacher of Nythe Primary School, said: “Tomi got the audition through Stagecoach Agency. “He wants to be an actor, he loves drama and he has done some comedy as well.

“He has always had a talent for it. He has to work very hard for it. Both myself and his dad are very proud of him.

“He was in quite a lot of the series. “A lot of our friends and family know that he has been filming for it – it’s quite hard not to give the story away.”

Tomi has been taking part in classes at Stagecoach for nearly three years.

He recently took his Grade 2 musical theatre exam, with tuition from Stagecoach’s singing teacher Tamsin Kennard, and passed with 100 per cent.

Stagecoach principal Sheryll Datta said: Tomi is a talented student with great energy and a charming personality. “I am so pleased that we have been able to give him this opportunity and I am sure that Tomi has a bright future ahead of him.”
