YOUNG children brought their favourite teddy bears to Coate Water for a teddy bears’ picnic with their families on Friday.

A total of 34 families from Robert Le Kyng and Eldene Children’s Centres, plus about eight children from Headstart Nursery, took part in the event, which saw them walk around the lake, feed the ducks, play parachute and football games, and enjoy a picnic on the green beside the lake.

The picnic was open to parents and children in the wider community to take part, not just those who regularly attend the children’s centres.

Michelle Woods, an outreach co-ordinator at Eldene Children’s Centre, said there was a good response from under-fives and their families.

“It was to try to get families outside as well as give them activities throughout the summer holidays,” she said.

“It was fantastic. Everyone says that they had a lovely time and obviously it was really nice that the sun was shining.

“It was a good response. Normally we would have a session inside and we would normally have about 16 families at Eldene Children’s Centre and similar numbers at Robert Le Kyng, so it was a good turnout for a session.”
