THE Central Library was turned into an art studio this weekend as artists held a free exhibition.

As part of Swindon Open Studios the public were given a behind the scenes peek at local artwork.

This year over two weekends, 44 artists and groups have showcased their work in numerous locations from Swindon town centre and Old Town, to those further afield including Purton, Lechlade and Longcot.

The Central Library was the setting this weekend for artists to showcase their work.

Benoit Philippe was painting oil works, including landscapes around Swindon, while Christine Grey was demonstrating the use of hot wax within her work.

Benoit, from Old Town, has been painting since he was 12. He said: “It is a great platform for us because there are not many places in Swindon to exhibit your work.

“This space is good and it allows people to come and talk to you and hopefully you can inspire a few people.”

Christine, who works at the library, only took up painting three years ago as a hobby.

She said: “Open Studios is brilliant because it is a way for the public to see what you are doing and the artists to talk about their work. It has been a good weekend.”
