FIBRE-optic internet that is up to 100 times faster than usual broadband will be available to businesses next month.
Swindon-based Excalibur Communications will officially unveil the Swindon CityFibre service, an ultra-fast gigabit internet it has developed with partner CityFibre for the past year.
The connection will mean 100mb of images can be downloaded in a second or a full HD movie in seven seconds.
Peter Boucher, Excalibur chief executive officer, speaking about having a full fibre network in Swindon, said: “This is significant news for companies based here, as it not only brings a real step-change in how businesses can operate in terms of speed and productivity, but makes sure Swindon is future-proofed for the digital age.”
CityFibre has already launched the service in many small cities across the UK and has a 310km network of fibre optic cable infrastructure spread out across southern England
It claims it can improve efficiency for local authorities running local services as well as helping to attract businesses.
Excalibur says that around one fifth of businesses report being unsatisfied with their connectivity.
The launch is on Thursday May 16, from 6 - 8pm, at Arclite House.
