Latest to join the band of more than 100 SUVs is the Alfa Romeo with their Stelvio and prices come in close to the £40,000 mark.

Not a bad motor car and there is the Italian influence through and through and such is the new way of obtaining a car you can go to Amazon!

Through www.amazon.co.uk, customers can choose a time and date that’s convenient for the car to be delivered to their home, workplace or wherever best suits them.

Running for a limited time, the initiative lets customers use their desktop or mobile device to type in their postcode on the dedicated page www.amazon.co.uk/adlp/alfaromeo, select their preferred date and time and have an Alfa Romeo specialist deliver the Stelvio directly to them.

Quite amazing. No more Swiss Toni – that wonderful car dealer who was in the Fast Show.

On a 45 minute test drive the customer can put the Stelvio through its paces on roads familiar to them, while the specialist will be able to answer all their questions and show them how to get the most out of the car.

Should customers wish to purchase, they will then be directed to their local Alfa Romeo retailer.

Customers in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh will be able to book test drives on selected weekends throughout December.

Any customers living outside of the eligible areas can test drive the Stelvio at their local Alfa Romeo retailer, along with the rest of the range.

Alfa Romeo Amazon test drive slots will last for 45minutes, and will be available on a first come first served basis over the following three weekends in London and this weekend in Birmingham.

James Marsh, customer experience director for FCA UK, said: “The Stelvio is the first SUV from Alfa Romeo and with this new car has come fresh thinking.

“Working with Amazon on this test drive programme has given us the chance to put our customers at the centre and make the whole process of trying a new car as convenient as possible while still allowing them to experience the Alfa Romeo passion.”

This is Alfa’s first SUV in its history, and it comes at a time when SUV sales are going through the roof. Saloon cars are suffering.

It’s a good looking car but try putting on a jacket and fastening the seat belt might be difficult.

It zooms along quite nicely and if you want a top of the range Quadrifoglio, for which you could pay around more than £80,000, but that will give you one of the fastest cars on the British roads.

The Alfa’s Q4 all-wheel drive system (rear drive in normal conditions, up to 50 per cent of the power frontwards in low-grip conditions) is standard on all versions.

Handling is near perfect and with the two litre turbo petrol engine there is miles per gallon well over 40.

Two engines were offered at launch, with a traditional eight-speed auto.

The first, a 2.2-litre diesel, produces 207bhp and 347lb ft of torque, covers 0-62mph in 6.6 seconds and returns 58.9mpg and 127g/km of CO2.

The petrol 2.0-litre turbo is probably the better of the two.

It will give you 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds and is bags of fun.

Time to get in touch with Amazon and trying one to see if it floats your boat!
