Brits have been advised they can find a number of high-quality second-hand fans online amid the high temperatures seen in recent months.
Back during the May bank holiday, the online marketplace Gumtree recorded a massive 287% uplift in searches for fans.
It also tracked a 69% spike in search volume from Sunday, May 24 into Bank Holiday Monday (May 25) alone.
The spike in demand comes as rising temperatures prompt shoppers to seek affordable ways to stay cool, and many are turning to the second-hand market for potential savings.
Buying a used fan on Gumtree can save buyers an average of £82.62 per unit, according to the company.
What second-hand fans could you find online?
The company recommends several high-quality, expert-approved models to look out for on the second-hand market.
These include the MeacoFan Sefte 10”, praised for its quiet 25dB operation and energy efficiency.
Another option is the Dyson Purifier Cool, a bladeless tower fan that doubles as a HEPA air purifier, filtering out pollen during high-hayfever heatwaves.
The Levoit Silent Tower Fan offers an auto-mode that adjusts speed based on room temperature, while the Duux Whisper Flex 2 boasts 30 speed settings and can be controlled via app or voice commands.
The Shark FlexBreeze is notable for its 12-in-1 design, which includes a pedestal or desktop option, cordless operation, and an outdoor misting attachment.
Caution advised when buying second-hand fans online
While there are savings to be found, experts are urging shoppers to be cautious.
Giuseppe Capanna, product safety engineer at Electrical Safety First, said: "With electric fans flying off the shelves during the heatwave, many people could be tempted to pick one up second-hand.
"But a bargain fan could come at a much higher cost.
"Electrical appliances can deteriorate over time, and if you don't know a product's history, you can't be sure it's safe.
"It may even have been recalled without your knowledge, putting you at risk of electric shock or fire.
"If you do buy a fan second-hand, check the Government's recall database before using it.

"We'd also urge shoppers to steer clear of third-party sellers on online marketplaces, where unsafe products can be harder to spot.
