ACADEMY conversion is the topic on everybody’s lips at Lydiard Millicent CE VC Primary School, as a consultation process opened up earlier this year.

Letters were sent out in February of this year by the chair of governors Richard Coleman to inform parents of the process and what they could expect from it.

Most recently there were two consultation sessions held in March, with parents present and able to ask questions of both Richard and headteacher Carol Dougill.

An outcome on the decision the school will take has not yet been released, but school chiefs accept most schools convert eventually and the decision would be whether to convert now or later. The school site in The Butts, Lydiard Millicent, is surrounded by countryside and opportunities for children to use green space at the school are vast.

There is an outdoor pirate ship, den building area, fire pit, Darwin Thinking Path, animal habitats, as well as bird and deer watching hides.

In the school’s brochure, the school promotes its children as leaders, with an active school council involved in the school’s development plan, as well as leading fundraising work and playground development.

The school also has an eco team which focuses on the environment and keeping its carbon footprint to a minimum.

There is a head boy, head girl and team of prefects, who welcome visitors and assist younger children around the school.

In its latest newsletter for parents, Carol has made an appeal for more parents to assist in after-school clubs.

She said: “In my last letter I asked for volunteers to help with clubs. It is not a requirement for teachers to run clubs and I am so pleased that they offer as much as they do.

“But with increasing workloads and demands such as meetings as well as with the marking that is usually at least three hours per night, I was hoping that talented and/or enthusiastic parents would come forward.”
