WITH just three days left to register for one of Swindon’s largest fundraising events, walkers and Prospect Hospice supporters are being urged to take the plunge and join this year’s Starlight Walk.

More than 500 people have signed up to take part in the moonlit walk on Saturday, June 28, but the Wroughton charity is hoping that 100 more will pledge their support by the registration deadline on Sunday night.

Glow-in-the-dark t-shirts have just arrived at Prospect and with glow sticks and colourful accessories, participants will be more than ready for the walk and its ‘Light up the Night’ theme.

The flashy outfits will not be the only ones to shed a dazzling light as the hospice has planned a trail of luminous surprises at the region’s biggest night stroll.

And unlike some of the charity’s other events, which raise funds towards a general pot, all funds collected through the Starlight Walk are spent directly on nursing care.

Prospect events fundraiser Genevieve Arney said: “This is its seventh year and it’s the biggest event in our fundraising calendar.

“We are looking at raising a minimum of £50,000 and all of the money raised goes directly towards our nursing care. It’s a really important event. Anything people can do to help towards the care is fantastic.

“It’s a fun event to do in a group of friends or work colleagues and people can feel they are directly supporting our nurses.

“It’s all on pavements so it’s all off road. It’s a nice pace and you can do it in your own time and wander along.”

She added: “We are also having some special lit-up areas all along the route that walkers can pass through; a UV dream land, an enchanted lake and a fully lit tunnel. It’s something different. Nothing else happens like this in Swindon. It should be lovely.”

Participants will have a choice between a 10km and 15km route.
