DANY N’Guessan thinks Swindon Town’s current crop of players could hold their own in the Championship.

The forward, a summer signing from Millwall, has impressed since arriving at the County Ground - and his goal in the 5-2 victory over Port Vale on Saturday was his sixth in 12 appearances for the Robins.

During that period Town have risen to seventh in League One, but N’Guessan feels this Swindon squad could quite easily cut it at a higher level.

“I’ve said from the start we have very good young players, and this team is good enough to stay in the top six and maybe do something this year,” he said.

“To be honest, for me they would do well (in the Championship) because of the way we play, and maybe even higher.

“They play football on the grass and it’s really good, but that’s just my own opinion.”

For all his goals, the 26-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular place in the starting line-up with Town, and N’Guessan has only begun two of Swindon’s last six games in all competitions.

Far from unsettling the player, N’Guessan says that run has simply driven him to perform when he does get gametime, and he’s been buoyed by a chat with manager Mark Cooper.

“In the last two games I haven’t started but I have spoken to the manager and when I get my chance I have to take it,” he said.

“I want to start, but if the manager decides I don’t then I don’t start. I’ve been in the game long enough to know that and you always know your chance is going to come.

“If I get the chance I have to show what I can do, and I hope I did that (against Port Vale).”
