SWINDON-based cruiserweight Lawrence Bennett has landed a shot at the Southern Area title.

The Jamaican born boxer was set to line up on Keith Mayo’s Friday night show but after being offered the chance to take on Jack Morris on Thursday, March 27 in Southwark for the belt, Bennett will now concentrate his efforts for belt.

Bennett said on his Facebook page: “Got a massive opportunity. It has been confirmed on the March 27 I will fight for the southern area title against Jack Morris on his home show.

“It is time to shine, they messed up, they think it's a easy fight for their boy, (I’m) coming to get that belt.”

Mayo added: “Lawrence was due to fight Friday night, but now he’ll fight for the Southern Area title in three weeks time and that is a great opportunity for him.”

The 31-year-old southpaw goes into the contest on the back of points loss to Courtney Richards who has already told Bennett that should he be victorious that he wants to a shot at the title.

Richards said on Bennett’s Facebook page: “You win it, I’m coming for it Bennett.” To which the Swindon fighter replied: “When I win it you can have your shot Courtney Richards, you know we go to do it again.”

Margate-based Morris has only been beaten once in his 12 fight career as he was on the wrong end of a narrow points decision against Michael Banbula when he made his professional debut in 2007.
