THREE Swindon Town youngsters have been called up by Scotland Under 15s for two international challenge matches against the Republic of Ireland next week.

Defender Will Christopher and midfielders Callum Gunnar and Jordan Young all impressed Scottish manager Scot Gemmill during a recent training camp and have been summoned for national service once again for the games, which are due to take place at East End Park in Dumfermline on Monday and Wednesday next week.

The trio are all looking to prove they are worth a place in Scotland’s Victory Shield squad for the under 16 Home National round-robin event which is scheduled for October.

Swindon academy director Jeremy Newton was delighted for the three players, saying: “It’s good for us. It’s recognition of the hard work that’s going in beyond me - it’s the coaches as well and we’re privileged that we work full-time with these boys but there’s a lot of work that goes on with the part-time coaches who are still developing them now.

“Scot always calls or emails, he’s sent all the DVDs down of the games so we can give a copy to the players. The manager and Luke can have a look at the games as well. It’s important those reports come back and we go through them with the players.

“The players on international duty are on very quick game turnaround so they don’t really have time to go through the DVD. Myself and Jamie and the two 16s coaches go through the game with the players, highlight some good stuff and some stuff we’d want to improve in our club football.”

Young recently committed himself to Town by penning a three-year youth deal and decisions will soon be made on Christopher and Gunnar.

“All three have moved on from working with me, they are in the 16s now with the two 16s coaches. It’s a handing-up process and hopefully they’ll continue to work hard for when we have to make a decision about them in the future,” said Newton.

“Jordan Young has already signed his youth contract so he’s tied up for another three and a bit years, so that’s good for the club. It’s up to Will and Call and the rest of the squad to push on now.”
