THE Swindon Primary Schools season came to a close with the end of season knockout cup finals at Millbrook Primary School on Saturday.

Goddard Park and Noremarsh contested the first final of the day, the Girls’ Cup.

Noremarsh took an early lead through Megan Jarrett but a fine penalty save from Shannon Lindsell prevented them from doubling their advantage.

Goddard Park levelled through Kayleigh Stanley to send the match to a penalty shootout.

Noremash kept their cool in the shootout, scoring all three of their spot-kicks while Goddard Park missed all of theirs.

The second final of the day was the Plate between Even Swindon and Greenmeadow.

Jay Gilbert gave Greenmeadow the lead on four minutes, netting through a melee of players before Jake Sollis headed in a corner to bring Even Swindon level.

Jacob Jackson then gave Even Swindon the lead before Ashley Fowler made it 3-1 before the break.

Sam Jones extended Even Swindon’s lead further before Fowler added a fifth in the dying seconds.

Next up was Goddard Park and Wroughton, contesting the Shield final.

Goddard Park took an early lead courtesy of Marcus Ifil’s quick feet.

Tyger-J Hall’s mazy run and finish brought Wroughton level before Alfie Barker gave them the lead just prior to half-time.

Hall made it 3-1 before Ifil pulled a goal back for Goddard Park.

With less than two minutes remaining Barker ensured Wroughton were crowned champions, scoring to make it 4-2.

Finally, Grange and Red Oaks contested the Bloor Homes Cup Final.

Archie Thomas gave Red Oaks an early lead and, just before the break, doubled their lead after capitalising on a goalkeeping error to score into an empty net.

Grange began the second half in determined fashion but couldn’t break through the Red Oaks defence.

Red Oaks clinched victory with Thomas’s third goal, steered in via Tobias Lango’s fine cross.

Swindon Primary Schools’ Football Association secretary and organiser Steve Beale was delighted with the finale to the season, saying: “It was a superb ending to our season and spectators were treated to four exciting and entertaining games.

“All of the teams played their matches in a competitive, but sporting manner and can be proud of their achievement in reaching the finals.”
