SIMON Davies' arrival at Craven Cottage holds no fears for Michael Timlin and the youngster believes it is simply a spur to perform even better for Swindon Town.

It means the youngster faces another obstacle to first team football when he returns to London at the end of the season but he is anything but daunted.

Timlin takes enormous confidence from the fact that only Fulham's former captain kept him out of the team at the start of the season, not that he is a problem' any longer, having now joined West Ham United.

Timlin said: "Simon Davies is a great acquisition to the Fulham squad.

"He's a good, hard working player and that's the type Chris Coleman seems to want now.

"Competition is a healthy thing so I'm not disheartened by him coming in.

"It just makes you want to work even harder and keep your performance levels high.

"I'm confident that when I go back to Fulham next year I'll definitely be playing a lot more.

"I had a good pre-season and nearly broke in but Luis Boa Morte was in the side as captain."

Coleman continues to receive reports on Timlin's progress and the player is anxious for another glowing report following today's clash with Macclesfield at the County Ground.

Timlin said: "We have to take a lot of confidence from the way we played and adapted at Boston.

"We showed that we can roll our sleeves up as a side as well as playing our football.

"We knew it was going to be a tough game and we did well."

The same cannot be said of last month's visit to Moss Rose and Timlin accepts there can be no repeat.

He said: "We started really sloppy in the first half up there.

"We have to make sure we start sharp this time.

"Hopefully we can get the ball down and play our football but we also have to match them on the physical side and in the long ball scraps."

Timlin is hoping to add to the single goal he has so far netted in Town colours.

He said: "Yes, I'd take another goal (his only strike coming in December's 1-1 draw with Notts County) but the team winning is the important thing."

n DENNIS Wise's troubles at Leeds United continue to mount with the former Town boss now facing an FA charge as well as a relegation fight.

The Elland Road chief has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association after an incident during the Championship match with West Bromwich Albion last Saturday.

Wise was ordered to leave the technical area during the game which Leeds lost 3-2.

Wise, who has until February 9 to respond to the charge, pushed West Brom striker Diomansy Kamara when he was substituted.

He was sent to the stand by referee Neil Swarbrick in the final moments of the match and accused Kamara of time-wasting.

"He took his time and unfortunately I pushed him off the pitch to get him off,'' said Wise.

"I'd had enough of him, to be honest. Making gestures to the crowd. I was quite pleased he'd gone off because everyone was fed up with him," said Wise after the match.
