TOWN midfielder Massimo Luongo has, as expected, been named in Australia's squad for the international friendly against Japan in Osaka later this month.

Luongo, who played through the pain barrier in Town's 1-0 Skybet League One win over Preston last night, is included in the 23-man list named by Socceroos head coach Ange Postecoglou for the final friendly before Australia hosts the 2015 Asian Cup.

Former Town loanee Brad Smith, who has returned to Liverpool, is not included.

Postecoglou  said: “The Japan match is the final hit out before the Asian Cup and we’ll have a good week of training leading into the game so we can continue to work on what we’ve been trying to achieve before we take on a tough opponent in Japan.

“The squad we’ve selected has a core group of players we have been working with over the last 12 months but it still gives an opportunity to a few more younger players who have started the season well in the A-League.”

Luongo played against North End last night despite suffering sickness through codeine he had been given to ease a bac problem that occurred when he picked up a water bottle on Monday.

The Socceroos will start assembling in Osaka on Monday (November 11) ahead of the match on November 18, meaning Luongo is expected to miss Town's League One clash with local rivals Bristol City on Saturday week.

Meanwhile, Swindon Town's youth team defeated Christchurch 5-0 in the first round of the FA Youth Cup last night and will face Oxford United or Bristol City in the next round on November 22.
