TOWN skipper Nathan Thompson is a doubt for the play-off final against Preston North End a week on Sunday.

The defender limped off with a hamstring injury after a challenge in the second half against Sheffield United on Monday night and was seen leaving the County Ground on crutches.

Swindon manager Mark Cooper will be sweating on the fitness of his captain ahead of his side’s trip to Wembley. He has Raphael Branco and Sam Ricketts in reserve, but will have to reshuffle his team should Thompson be absent.

Asked on the captain’s condition after last night’s game, Cooper said: "I'm not sure yet.

“We'll get the machine on it straight away and make sure that there is limited damage, but he's got two weeks so hopefully it's not too bad of a strain and he'll be able to lead his team out at Wembley.”

Should Thompson be injured, any reorganisation would involve Harry Toffolo, who missed both semi-final games with a dead leg.

John Swift and Andy Williams were also absent from the pitch for Monday’s night drama, Cooper offering reassurance that the trio would be available for Wembley.

"(Toffolo, Swift and Williams) will be fine for the final,” he added.

“Williams and Swift) picked up strains in the game the other night and it really limited our options for the bench.”
